Physics is the study of matter, energy, motion, force, fields, waves, heat, light, electricity, atoms, and measurement. In InfoPreserver terms, it is not just an academic subject. It is a rebuild language: it lets a community reason about machines, heat engines, pumps, optics, electrical circuits, materials, sound, pressure, radiation, and the limits of measurement.
This folder belongs in A2 because the collection contains deeper textbooks, laboratory manuals, thermodynamics handbooks, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and theoretical physics. The knowledge itself begins much earlier. A0 and A1 communities can use basic mechanics, levers, buoyancy, heat, pressure, optics, and practical measurement. The A2 placement reflects the point where physics becomes a systematic workshop and technical education capability supported by instruments, mathematics, laboratories, and trained teachers.
Physics begins when observation becomes measurement. Length, time, mass, temperature, angle, pressure, voltage, current, and frequency turn vague experience into repeatable knowledge. A practical physics program should begin with low-cost instruments: rulers, balances, pendulums, thermometers, manometers, simple lenses, springs, stopwatches, weights, pulleys, and electrical meters.
The local documents Low Cost Physics Experiments.pdf, Practical Physics 1917.pdf, and several introductory workbooks are especially useful because they connect concepts to experiments. For a recovery library, experiment-based physics matters more than polished theory alone.
Mechanics teaches force, work, energy, torque, friction, pressure, momentum, and simple machines. Heat and thermodynamics teach cooking, drying, insulation, engines, refrigeration, boilers, steam, distillation, and power conversion. Electricity and magnetism connect physics to motors, generators, batteries, communications, lighting, and instruments.
These areas are the bridge between A1 craft and A2 industry. A blacksmith, millwright, pump repairer, electrician, surveyor, and radio technician all use physics, whether or not they call it that.
Advanced texts such as Feynman, Landau and Lifshitz, and quantum mechanics are not the first thing a recovering community needs. Their value is different: they compress large areas of technical knowledge into reusable principles. Once a community has schools, mathematical training, instruments, and technical apprenticeships, advanced physics becomes a multiplier for engineering, chemistry, electronics, medicine, and materials science.
Do not treat all physics as A2. The folder contains A2-level textbooks, but many narrow physics capabilities should be referenced from lower-level practical topics.
